Strays: Small Town Single Dad Anti-Hero Romance Kindle Edition
She's a sassy grad student who has always lived a charmed life.
They couldn't be more opposite...
Before my sixteenth birthday I was kicked to the streets, condemned for a crime I didn’t commit.
Since then I've lived a solitary life and broken a few heads when I had to.
But that all has to change now.
Because I've just heard that I have a five-year-old son.
And this kid now has no one else in the world but me.
So it's time to step up and learn how to be a father.
Into this chaos walks Isabella Gentry.
She was warned to keep her distance.
I was the one who warned her.
She’s beautiful. She’s headstrong. She’s spoiled and pushy.
And, thanks to a weird chain of events, she’s my freaking roommate.
A part of me wants to turn her world upside down.
The rest of me wants to worship the ground she walks on.
This can go one of two ways.
Either I’ll decide be the worst version of myself.
Or I’ll surrender the past in order to build a family and a future.
And just maybe I’ll prove something.
That the guy everyone loves to hate might be redeemable yet...

Cora has done it again with the continuation of the gentry family, seamlessly fitting in characters we have grown to love over the years into new stories, and allowing us to watch their kids grow and find love of their own.
I loved Izzy Gentry’s sass and the relationship she built with Rafe.
While trying to avoid giving away any spoilers, the development of their relationship was beautiful, and at some points brought me to tears (which is a true feat!).
And let’s be honest - Oliver stole the show.
Perfectly written 5 year old - as a parent I often find authors make children in books sound too adult and not age appropriate- Oliver was spot on and probably one of my favourite side characters of the whole Gentry series.
Strays was a roller coaster of emotions throughout in the BEST POSSIBLE WAY!
I loved this book and will definitely be in my re read rotation!
Rafe’s life hasn’t been worth much and when he is put into the position of sole parent to a 5 year old boy, Oliver. Connecting with his only remaining family member is the best way to move forward in changing his ways. Isabella is branching out away from her very supportive family and when fate steps in and puts Rafe in her path there is no stopping it. He may have a rough exterior but underneath it all is the person Rafe was always meant to be.
I personally really enjoyed this story; Rafe and Izzy had amazing chemistry and Oliver’s character had my heart breaking for his loss. Brent is a new to me author and I look forward to reading more in the future.

I don’t agree that Rafe was an anti-hero, though.
According to Wikipedia:
"An antihero (sometimes spelled as anti-hero)[1] or antiheroine is a main character in a story who may lack conventional heroic qualities and attributes, such as idealism, courage, and morality.[1][2][3][4][5] Although antiheroes may sometimes perform actions that most of the audience considers morally correct, their reasons for doing so may not align with the audience's morality.[6] An antihero typically exhibits one of the "Dark triad" personality traits, which include narcissism, psychopathy, and machiavellianism.[7]”
Rafe had a difficult past, but he wasn’t immoral or morally ambiguous, narcissistic, psychopathic, or evil in any way. He had a difficult past and it took him some time to find himself. However, he rises to the challenge of being a dad immediately and his initial response to Oliver shows that he is definitely a hero. Rafe is a great guy, with lots of scars and lots of love to give when he finally meets people he can trust. He is absolutely decent and respectful in living with Izzy. We also see this in his relationship with his brother that is repaired and healed when they spend time together.
Izzy is perfect for Rafe and Oliver. They make a great little family.
Loved the book, loved the characters!
It doesn’t take long before you realise Rafe is Johnathan’s brother, memories come flooding back from Long Lost which was Johnatan’s story.
This is Strays this is Rafe’s story and it is everything that you could wish for and so very Cora Brent.
Rafe became a parent over night to his 5 year old son Oliver. He was completely thrown in the deep end and the reality soon sets in that it isn’t just about him anymore he’s a Dad now and it isn’t an easy transition however Rafe knows it will take time, effort and a lot of patience before this father and son team become anything like it should be.
Izzy Gentry isn’t having much luck having been let down on her first choice of accommodation she’s forced to find another option it works in her favour, meanwhile Rafe and Oliver are on their way to Johnathan’s. Through misunderstandings and miss communication, little do either of them know they will be living in the same apartment.. the shocks on their faces are priceless but they soon accept their fate... just as well!
There is a lot of tension between Rafe and Johnathan the past coming between them and definitely needs to be work through but we will have to wait for that to be resolved because there are more important things to take care of.
Rafe is doing all he can in the Dad department while Oliver is struggling to accept some aspects, it makes for a very emotion read in parts and while you feel very grateful for all the love and support from Izzy, Johnathan, Caris, Shane, Lana, and The Gentry’s you know it will take time before everything slots into place. It’s a slow process it’s a brilliantly told storyline with a lot of light hearted and sexy moments but sadness is never far away either because of the situation with Rafe and Johnathan or Rafe and Oliver and the loss of Oliver’s mother all which needed to be acknowledged and dealt with.
Thankfully all the above get the attention that’s long over due and hope is on the horizon and comes as a huge relief as you see a massive improvement both with Rafe and Oliver who now calls him dad and Rafe and Johnathan are finally where they should be and the icing on the cake is wedding bells all round and happy families.!
Strays is the first book of Cora Brent's I've read, and I have been missing out if this story is anything to go by. I need to go and read the rest of this families stories. I'm looking forward to reading more from her.
Rafe you broken soul. I didn't want this to end. It was so beautiful.
Cora Brent you stole a piece of heart. I'm working hard not to reveal any spoilers, I could quote most of Strays. The beauty of Cora's writing, the ability to draw the reader in with practised ease. I wasn't sure what to expect as this my introduction to Cora. BOY, have I got all her other works in my backlog. Hell yeah.
I couldn't read fast enough, my only complaint is I struggled to invison the flat, I ended up being confused how their & Lana's home was organised. That says more about me than Cora's descriptions, I focus on logistics (might be the wanna be architect in me)
I need to know what Greasy June's is based off, just to try one of everything in the menu. Ooooh and Ruby's, I had to bake a batch of blueberry muffins after finishing this book.
Why do books always make me hungry, or crave the liquor shelf...
I felt so warm & fuzzy through this, I was either laughing or crying, Brent's a genius, the love Rafe has for his little boy is so clear and let's talk about Izzy, what a stunning book-being.
From the first sentence to the last I was hooked.
If you need a beautiful heart warming twist & trails book. This is for you.
I cant wait to get stuck into where it all began with The Gentry Boys.
